Ahascragh / Fohenagh 0 - 7

In a tough but fair game played in Annaghdown on Saturday evening, Rahoon/Newcastle booked their place in the next round of the 2006 Under 21 Championship with a well deserved victory over Ahascragh/Fohenagh. The start was delayed by 1/2 an hour while both teams waited for a referee,  who failed to turn up, which is a reflection of how serious this competition is taken by the County board. But the game did get underway with Sean Silke taking charge of the whistle. Rahoon/Newcastle started with the wind but took a while to settle down. Points from Dermot Tarpey and Jamie Davoren put Rahoon in front mid way through the half, but Ahascragh responded with a brace of scores themselves. It was tit-for-tat until half time where Rahoon went in at the break 2 points to the good on a score line of 0 - 6 to 0 - 4. Ahascragh/Fohenagh pulled it back to the minimum after the break but the Rahoon/Newcastle forwards excelled and it was great to see all 6 forwards scoring before the end. Great displays from Paul Kelly, Eoin Kyne, Kevin Silke, Colin Heffernan, David Davoren, Eoin Hyland, Dermot Tarpey and Enda Feeney ensured Rahoon/Newcastle will be involved in the latter stages of the competition.
