Under 14 County Semi Final

Rahoon-Newcastle 1 –7

 Meelick- Eyrecourt 2-7

In a wet and windy Kilconieron pitch Rahoon-Newcastle went out of the County Under 14 Championship at the semi-final stage. In what could be described as a game of two halves, Rahoon played against the hill and wind in the first half. They started well and were unlucky not to get on the scoreboard in the first 5 minutes with a goal chance from Paul Griffin that went narrowly wide. Meelick soon got into their stride and used the wind advantage to great effect and scored   2 - 5 to Rahoon’s 0 - 1     before the break.

After the restart Rahoon piled on the pressure and a well taken goal by Vincent Mullins put them right back in the game. Gearioid O’Connor brought the game to Meelick and one thinks if all members played with the same heart the outcome may have been different. Meelick did get into the Rahoon half on occasion and capitalised on some needless fouling to score 3 valuable points from frees. Rahoon threw everything they had at the Meelick defence in the last 5 minutes but couldn’t get that second goal.

Great displays from Willie Mackey, Gearoid O’Connor, Garvin McVerry and Vincent Mullins show that the future is bright for this group of players and a word of mention must go to the total commitment of selectors Paul Flaherty and Andy Keane who gave everything to this age group to try and make the breakthrough.
