Intermediate Championship Rahoon/Newcastle 3 - 12 Killimor 0 - 11 Rahoon Newcastle Extend Championship Run With Good Win Over Killimor
Rahoon Newcastle staved off a strong challenge from Killimor to gain their third championship win on the trot in the Intermediate Championship Group game played in Clarinbridge on Friday evening last.
Despite a low start during which they missed quite a few easy scoring chances the City outfit eventually got off the mark with points from Brian Cloherty, David Kelly, Dermot Tarpey and Martin Kelly and a well worked goal from Shane O’ Connor. Killimor found scores hard to come by against a very resolute Rahoon Newcastle defense well marshaled by Tony Óg Regan. Rahoon Newcastle continue to take their scores and deservedly lead at half time by 1-8 to 0-5.
In the second half Killimor broke through for a couple of opportunistic points but in the fifth minute the game suddenly turned in Rahoon Newcastle’s favour when a line ball from Dermot Tarpey was first timed to the net by Shane O Connor. All most immediately Davis Kelly careered through the Killimor defense to shoot a third goal. Killimor never really recovered from this body blow and Rahoon Newcastle pulled away in the closing stages to register a well-deserved victory. For Rahoon Newcastle Brian Kelly played soundly in goals whilst Kevin Silke, Eamon Joyce, Tony Óg Regan, Niall Carr, Martin Kelly, David Kelly. Brian Cloherty and Shane O Connor gave outstanding contributions on the day. Killimor had good performances from Shane McClearn, Andrew Carey and James Concannon.
