Intermediate Championship

Rahoon/Newcastle 2 - 15

Cappataggle 0 - 12

Rahoon Newcastle put in a good performance to overcome the challenge of Cappataggle in Loughrea last Sunday. Without manager Tony ‘Horse’ Regan on the line to provide guidance Rahoon seemed to start slowly with Cappataggle notching up 3 points in the opening few minutes without answer from Rahoon. Then David Kelly and Damien Joyce exchanged points before a great move was finished of  by Bryan Cloherty to leave the score at 1 –1 to 0 – 4. This score seemed to kickstart the Rahoon challenge and with Eamonn Joyce now dominating at centre field Rahoon went in at the break 1 – 7 to 0 - 6.

After the break Rahoon shot out of the blocks and with scores from Martin Kelly, Niall Carr, David Kelly, Martin McGrath and Eamonn Joyce (Yeah Eamonn Joyce !!) it was 19 minutes into the second half before Cappataggle registered their first score of the second half with the game out of reach. Rahoon finished strong with Shane O’Connor getting their second goal before the finish leaving the sore at Rahoon Newcastle 2 – 15 to Cappataggle 0 - 12.

This was a more polished performance from the city side, but face a stiff challenge from Killimor next weekend and will have to pull out all the stops to defeat the southerners.
